Girl Effect

A transformative campaign lifts up girls’ healthcare and education.

Global development funding historically overlooked girls; especially their healthcare and education across the global south. To change this, the Nike Foundation launched the Girl Effect, an initiative developed by Red & Co. founder Mira Kaddoura, Jess Vacek and Julia Blackburn who created its identity and two powerful films.

Debuting at the World Economic Forum and Clinton Foundation conference, the films emotionally highlighted the urgent need to prioritize girls, resulting in massive funding for schools and healthcare facilities across Africa and beyond. The campaign not only positioned girls as a global development priority, but also set a new standard for nonprofit storytelling, inspiring organizations worldwide to adopt its impactful style of animated text and illustrations. Its transformative impact continues a decade later.
